Early Arrivals
This morning I woke to find that the first of the crocuses had bloomed, brilliant spots of yellow peaking out of the otherwise brown, fallow earth. I'm still amazed that the crocus, which always appears so delicate, as if a little gust of wind would blow it away, is really so tough that it blooms in the winter, pushing itself right through frozen ground and hollering "Here I am. I'm back!".
And that's not all,
Among the early arrivals working out for Billy Gardner in Fort Myers were outfielder Michael Coleman, catcher Steve Lomasney, and pitcher Paxton Crawford . . . [and] The Red Sox still say Pedro Martinez intends to be in camp by next Sunday (Edes, The Boston Globe).
We are almost out of our off season with Hades in the underworld.
Note: If you're wondering why I'm not mentioning the biggest event in recent memory for Boston sports, one word: jinx. (Gulp.)
